Black Friday 2026 in Canada: how to tell a real deal from a normal price

6 min read · Updated October 4, 2026 · Prices and specifications checked October 3, 2026

Black Friday falls on Friday, November 27, 2026, with Cyber Monday on November 30 and Boxing Day on Saturday, December 26. The work that decides whether you get a good price happens before those dates, because a sale price only means something next to what the product cost in the weeks before.

This guide is a short plan for the next eight weeks. The store policies in it come from each retailer’s own page as we read it on October 3, 2026; they can change, so open the source before you rely on one.

The sale starts before the day

Retailers no longer keep Black Friday to one Friday. Best Buy Canada’s own price-match policy lists “Black Friday Month”, “Black Friday Prices Now” and “Early Black Friday Sales” among its special sale prices, alongside Black Friday itself.

So there is no single moment to wait for. A product can reach its lowest price two weeks early, on the day, or on Cyber Monday. What you can know is whether the price in front of you is low for that product.

Start watching now: you need a before-price

A price check on Black Friday that reads the last 90 days covers everything since August 29. That window includes the autumn sales in October, so it shows whether the Black Friday price beats what the product already sold for this season.

Pick the three or four things you actually plan to buy and check each one now. Note the lowest and the average price. Those two numbers are your test on the day, whatever the banner says.

If you set a price-drop alert on each, you will hear about a drop that happens before Black Friday without checking every day.

Watch the list price in the weeks before

A percentage off is measured from a list price, and list prices move. Between September 28 and October 3, 2026, Samsung Canada raised the list price of the Galaxy S26, S26+ and S26 Ultra by $150 to $250, and on October 3 its pages advertised a promo code for “up to $550” off select models in the same line.

We did not apply that code to each model, so we are not saying what the final prices were. The point is narrower: a discount announced next to a list price that has just gone up has to be compared with the price before the increase. A price history, or a note you made a month earlier, is the only way to do that.

On the day: three numbers, one minute

Compare the sale price with the average of the last 90 days. If it is within a few percent, the product is at its normal price.

Compare it with the lowest price of the last 90 days. At or near that low is a good price. Well above it means the product was cheaper recently.

Look at the last 30 days. If the price went up shortly before the sale and the sale brings it back, the discount is the increase being undone. Our Prime Day guide has a table for reading these cases.

Price matching will not help you on Black Friday

On an ordinary week, Best Buy Canada and Staples Canada will match a lower price from another Canadian retailer. Both exclude competitors’ special-event prices. Best Buy’s list includes Black Friday, Cyber Monday and Boxing Day or Boxing Week; Staples’ list includes Black Friday, Cyber Monday and Cyber Week, Boxing Day and Boxing Week.

Walmart Canada does not match competitors’ advertised prices at all, and Amazon.ca’s help page says it does not offer price matching.

During the sale, then, the cheapest store is simply the one to buy from. Compare the total with shipping, check that the model number, size and colour are the same, and check who the seller is: a marketplace seller on a big retailer’s site has its own shipping and return rules.

After you buy, keep the receipt for 30 days

Best Buy Canada says that if its own price is reduced within 30 days of your purchase, it will refund the difference when you present the original receipt, and that the window is 60 days for My Best Buy account holders.

Walmart Canada says that within 30 days, with a receipt, it refunds the difference when an item bought in a Walmart store is later offered at a lower Walmart price, except clearance items.

Whether a Black Friday sale price qualifies is for the store to decide: Best Buy’s policy excludes special sale prices from price matching, and neither page spells out how that applies to its own later sale. If you buy in mid-November, look at the price again on November 27 and on Cyber Monday, and ask the store with your receipt in hand.

What we can and cannot tell you

SaveIQ reads the last 90 days of an Amazon.ca product’s price, gives a buy, wait or fair-price call, flags a list price that is higher than anything the product sold for, and lists other Canadian stores it can match to the same product. The call uses the same rule on a sale day as on any other day.

We cannot tell you what a price will be on November 27, and nobody else can either. A product with only a few weeks of history has too little data for a verdict. For last year’s Black Friday price, use a multi-year chart on Keepa or camelcamelcamel.
