Finding a lower price at another store does not always mean buying from that store. Some Canadian retailers will match it, which lets you keep the store, the warranty desk and the return policy you prefer.
The rules differ a lot between stores, and the details decide whether a match is accepted. Everything below comes from each retailer’s own policy page as we read it on October 3, 2026. Policies change; open the source before you rely on it.
The four policies side by side
Two of the four match competitors. Walmart Canada matches only its own website’s price in its stores, and Amazon.ca does not price match at all.
| Store | Matches competitors? | How long you have | Not matched |
|---|---|---|---|
| Best Buy Canada | Yes: a retailer and authorized dealer located in Canada, online, in store or in print | Before you buy, or within 30 days of purchase (60 days with a free My Best Buy account) | Marketplace sellers (including on Amazon.ca and Bestbuy.ca), eBay.ca resellers, refurbished or liquidated goods, special sale prices such as Black Friday, Cyber Monday and Boxing Day |
| Staples Canada | Yes: a Canadian authorized reseller selling directly; on Amazon the listing must say it ships from and is sold by Amazon.ca | Within 30 days of receiving the item (14 days for electronics) | Marketplace sellers and resellers, refurbished, demo and open-box items, clearance, special events such as Black Friday, Boxing Week and Amazon Prime Days, Bose products |
| Walmart Canada | No. In a store it matches the Walmart.ca price for the identical item, if it is in stock on Walmart.ca | 30 days with a receipt if Walmart’s own price drops (clearance excluded) | Competitor advertised prices, Marketplace sellers, Rollback, Clearance, Black Friday and Cyber Monday prices |
| Amazon.ca | No. Its help page says it does not offer price matching | Not applicable | Not applicable |
The rule that fails most requests: who is the seller?
Best Buy and Staples both match only a price from a store selling the product itself. A price from a marketplace seller does not count, even when it appears on Amazon.ca or Bestbuy.ca.
On Amazon.ca, look under the buy button. A match needs the listing to say it ships from and is sold by Amazon.ca. If another company is named as the seller, expect the request to be refused.
It must be the identical product, in stock
Best Buy asks for the exact same brand name and model number, in stock and available at that price in your province. Staples asks for the same model number, components and warranty, and says it can still match when only the colour differs.
Best Buy compares the full price: the competitor’s price must be in Canadian dollars and include environmental fees, shipping and other charges. A lower sticker price with a shipping fee on top may not be lower at all.
Big sale days are mostly excluded
Both policies exclude competitors’ special-event prices. Best Buy lists Black Friday, Cyber Monday and Boxing Day or Boxing Week among them; Staples lists Boxing Day, Boxing Week, Black Friday, Cyber Monday and Cyber Week, and Amazon Prime Days.
So price matching is most useful on an ordinary week, when one store quietly drops a price and the others have not followed yet.
If the price drops after you buy
Best Buy will refund the difference if its own price is reduced within 30 days of your purchase and you present the original receipt. Walmart Canada refunds the difference within 30 days, with a receipt, when an item bought in a Walmart store is later offered at a lower Walmart price, except clearance items.
Keep the receipt and look at the price again two or three weeks after a large purchase. A price alert does this for you.
How to use this with a price check
Before asking for a match, you need the lower price and proof of it: the web address of the product page at the other store. A SaveIQ price check lists other Canadian stores selling the same product for less and links to each store’s own product page.
Open that page, confirm the model number and that the store itself is the seller, then show it to the retailer you want to buy from. The retailer decides; neither this guide nor SaveIQ can promise a match will be accepted.
