Boxing Day falls on Saturday, December 26, 2026, four weeks after Black Friday on November 27. Every year the same question comes up: should you have waited, or was the November price the better one?
Nobody can answer that in general, because it differs by product. What you can do is answer it for the one thing you want to buy, in about a minute. This guide shows how. The store policies in it come from each retailer’s own page as we read it on October 3, 2026; they can change, so open the source before you rely on one.
On Boxing Day, 90 days of history includes Black Friday
A price check made on December 26 that reads the last 90 days reaches back to September 27. That window holds the October sales, Black Friday, Cyber Monday and the weeks before Christmas.
So the lowest price of the last 90 days answers the question directly. If the Boxing Day price is at that low, it is the best price of the season for that product. If the low is lower than today’s price, the product was cheaper earlier, most likely in late November.
Three checks on the day
Compare the Boxing Day price with the 90-day low. At or within a few percent of it is a good price. Clearly above it means you are not getting the season’s best.
Compare it with the 90-day average. If the two are close, the product is at its normal price with a Boxing Day label on it.
Look at the last 30 days. If the price rose in mid-December and Boxing Day brings it back down, the discount is that rise being undone.
Boxing Day is a week, and it starts early
Retailers treat Boxing Day as a period, the same way they treat Black Friday. Best Buy Canada’s price-match policy lists “Boxing Day or Boxing Week” among its special sale prices, and Staples Canada’s lists both Boxing Day and Boxing Week.
There is no single hour to wait for. A product can reach its low before December 26 or later in the week, which is one more reason to judge the price in front of you against its history instead of against the calendar.
Price matching will not help during Boxing Week
On an ordinary week, Best Buy Canada and Staples Canada will match a lower price from another Canadian retailer. Both exclude competitors’ special-event prices, and both name Boxing Day and Boxing Week in that list.
Walmart Canada does not match competitors’ advertised prices at all, and Amazon.ca’s help page says it does not offer price matching.
During the sale, the cheapest store is simply the one to buy from. Compare the total with shipping, and check that the model number, size and colour are the same.
If you bought on Black Friday, Boxing Day is inside 30 days
December 26 is 29 days after November 27. That matters because of two store policies about a store’s own later price.
Best Buy Canada says that if its own price is reduced within 30 days of your purchase, it will refund the difference when you present the original receipt, and that the window is 60 days for My Best Buy account holders. Walmart Canada says that within 30 days, with a receipt, it refunds the difference when an item bought in a Walmart store is later offered at a lower Walmart price, except clearance items.
Whether a Boxing Day sale price qualifies is for the store to decide; neither page spells out how the rule applies to its own special sales. If the item you bought in November is cheaper at the same store on Boxing Day, it costs nothing to ask with your receipt in hand.
What we can and cannot tell you
SaveIQ reads the last 90 days of an Amazon.ca product’s price, gives a buy, wait or fair-price call, and lists other Canadian stores it can match to the same product. The call uses the same rule on Boxing Day as on any other day.
We cannot tell you what a price will be on December 26. For last year’s Boxing Day price, use a multi-year chart on Keepa or camelcamelcamel.
